Why are we so passionate about creating websites for you?.

At the beginning of Covid-19 first lockdown I, Sabine and I’m sure many others were stuck in a position where they weren’t sure what to do with themselves.

Should I start knitting socks? Read a book? Do an online course?

All great ideas, by the way, if that’s what you did with your lockdown time. I decided to teach. I haven’t got too many skills that I could pass onto someone else, but luckily, I’ve got a language that I know pretty well – my mother tongue Latvian.

With every new business idea comes “How do I advertise myself?” and that was my first task. I thought – it can’t be that difficult to create a website for yourself, can it?!

It was.

Working on a website for yourself can be stressful.

First things first, how do I build myself a website, what platform should I use, or do I need to take a programming crash course?

I tried a few of the well-known platforms out there – Wix, WordPress and Squarespace. None of them worked out, doing it yourself is difficult. I wasn’t sure what layouts I was using, what headings or block elements I need to use. At the end of the day, no matter what I tried, the website wasn’t fully responsive (mobile-friendly) and it surely wasn’t of any quality visually or structurally.

I was so fed up with these CMS systems that I decided to do a programming crash course in the end. I learnt HTML, basic CSS and touched on a few other things like PHP and JavaScript languages that I could not understand at the time, but luckily not much of that was needed to build a basic 1-page website.

Programming skills not needed for wordpress websites.

I struggled nonetheless - the website wasn’t SEO-friendly so I wasn’t getting the traffic that I hoped I would see. There were no keywords targeting the audience I was trying to reach and the whole website structure was way off as I wasn’t too sure of what I was doing in the first place.

What did I learn from this experience?

Let someone else do it, especially if it costs you as little as £145. You could spend more time teaching (or knitting) and letting someone else advise you on the building and maintaining of your new website.

If you would like a simple one-page website, our basic MiniBru package is a popular option to get you up-and-running with your new business in as little as one week. And guess what? It’s all done for you!
